First Day of the Rest of Their Lives

20/11/2022

Not every encounter make you feel good, productive or remotely even positive when supporting an individual. But this week's support assisting a scared, unsettled and disoriented landless family searching for a new land and opportunity to live made me feel with a deep emotional warmth. The help they deservedly needed for their acceptance of Asylum came from the Portugal with the help of many good well wishers assisting them in the search of a calm and safe life. The couple I met counted the darkest and most scared year and half of their lives. When asked how they managed from spiraling into deep despair, they explained that they received words and voices of encouragement from an individual through social media.

Examples after examples reaffirm the conviction that we do need someone by our side with empathy and compassion at our moments of crisis who is willing to understand our anxiety providing affirmation, grace and reassurance.

This was a very good encounter.
